White Pizza Sauce Recipe

Traditionally, when you think of pizza toppings, you might assume that a traditional tomato base is the only option. This would include tomatoes, garlic, herbs, and a touch of sugar for sweetness. However, there are now more options available.

You will need:

  • – 2 tbsp butter
  • – 1 clove garlic, minced
  • – 3 tbsp plain flour
  • – 1 pint of cream
  • – 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • – 1 tsp mixed Italian herbs
  • – Salt and pepper to taste
  • – 1/3 grated mozzarella cheese
  •

Method:

  1. Heat the saucepan on low and melt the butter. Then, add garlic and fry for approximately two minutes.
  2. Stir in the flour until it thickens, even if there are some lumps remaining. Don’t be concerned about the lumps for now.
  3. Gradually increase the heat and gently mix in the cream while whisking until it becomes smooth.
  4. To thicken the sauce, stir in the herbs, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Allow it to simmer for five minutes.
  5. Mix the cheese until it is completely melted.
  6. You can use the sauce right away. Then, cook the pizza for about 10 minutes on high heat in your outdoor oven.

You can add your preferred toppings to the pizza such as green vegetables, mushrooms, tuna, or white meats. Whether you add more cheese or not depends on your personal preference. The pizza has a rich and creamy taste already. Alternatively, you can use a cauliflower pizza base, and you can find our recipe for it here.

While not traditional, creamy pizza bases can offer a unique and innovative taste experience. If you typically enjoy creamy pasta sauces like carbonara over tomato-based sauces like Bolognese, you might not like the idea of tomatoes overpowering your pizza.

Some pizza toppings don’t complement tomato sauce as well. However, if you enjoy spinach, mushrooms, onions, bacon, or spicy jalapeños, trying white sauce could add a unique flavor. The mildness of the sauce can balance well with these toppings.

The recipe is versatile enough to use for making a creamy pasta sauce or as a filling for a cream-based pie. It’s always good to have an adaptable recipe on hand.
